Okay, so maybe I'll try something else...
Screenshots you showed me are from august. Game was in Closed Beta and Preview Weekend back then. No high-res textures to make sure everyone can play.

Nothing you do on your computer can do anything about low polygon models, simple lighting modes, and low-res textures.

Uhm. Low polygons - hehehehe. Lightning - yes, you can, a lot of games have options to change it. And about textures... Release has high-detail textures, and you CAN change to them if you have better PC.

I'd want the game to look like it was released in 2008. I refuse to believe one has to put the bar that low just to get the game to run acceptably on average rigs.
|
Then enjoy your dead AoC. Because obviously you hate WAR just because it doesn't have every new graphic effect. There is.
Oh, and there is kind of a reason why GW has better resolution. It's instanced. Every player has it's own instance, one area for every team. So your PC doesn't have to worry about other areas, loading them and so on.
Look at the screenshots I posted few posts before, compare to those on official page. And you will see the difference.

And I'd call you dumb and a person trying to remember WoW graphics as being UBER and way better than they actually were.
This is a popular comparison pic, both games running maxed out, with max AA and AF.

WoW graphics are fine, so are WAR.
It is about the fact that people will actually be able to play them on their machines.
Even if they get only 1.0001 person playing because of workable graphics for each person that decides those graphics use too little shaders and are not worth his epeen, it is "epic win".
Hell, WAR graphics are worse in this sense.

Yeah that's completely true.
MMORPG's always use graphics of ~4 years prior to their release, WoW did this, EQ1 did this, EQ2 did this, Ultima Online did this. Difference between them, Vanguard & Age of Conan?
They were all successful because they used manageable graphics that maximized the potential player base.
Many people don't like the idea of upgrading their machines just to be able to play a game on low.

Cool. I used to play WoW so I know these are colossal changes. I came to GW four months ago expecting a similar gaming experience to WoW, but that is far from the case. This game is lacking the PvE depth and the challenge of high end raiding that WoW has as well as other key features such as an easy player trading system. GW just seems "cheaply" developed to me which I can understand and appreciate because they don't make any money from subscription fees. The limitation of skills does make the PvP interesting, but I wouldn't praise Arenanet too much because of this "unique" feature.
It seems like the developers of Warhammer are taking care to release a game with great gameplay, depth, and balance instead of a rushed to market product. Visuals are an important part of a gaming experience, but only to the point where they immerse the player enough to create a fitting gaming environment. Great gameplay and design are going to create veterans and attract new players. Warhammer will be the most competition this genre has seen in years.

There's more to Guild Wars' PvP that makes it better than just "limitation of skills". Common, easily noticeable skill types (Signet, Hex, Enchantment, Spirit, etc), protection skill line up (no other MMORPG has anything like this.), a healing setup that goes beyond the standard healer line up:
-small heal that is cheap and casts fast
-medium heal that is medium cost and casts medium spd
-big heal that is huge cost and casts slow
-uber heal that is dirt cheap and casts uber fast (oh shit button)
-anti debuff
-anti poison
-limited time invincibility spell
That every other MMORPG has.
Skill based Weapon Swapping.
Non-Rock-Paper-Scissors class based balancing unlike what every other MMORPG has.
Innovative skill design (Reversal of Fortune is a skill GWers take for granted but it's actually innovative compared to your average MMORPG skill.)
etc
Are what make it great.

Yes, this is where "depth" of guildwars is hidden. And which is, unlike MMOs, actually depth.
What MMOs present as depth is just stuff getting more imba.

Fanboys... Why are you so irritantingly persistent in attempting to prove a point where there is no point to be proven? Both WoW and WAR have horrible graphics, technically, for 2k8 standards. Deal with it.

honestly when it comes to online games, I don't want up to date graphics. Actually one of the main reason I never went out and got AoC. But as for WAR, I'm actually quite interested in trying it out, heard it was a good time
still wish fury wouldn't have tanked tho ='(

Define "good" graphics in MMO. And notice how games with good graphics usually fail. AoC and Fury, both had HUGE requirements, both faied.

I wasnt saying any of the two fails or should fail, but its just pointless to discuss something where neither side can win.

It doesn't have 5000000000% bloom like ALL the good games (CRYSIS) ergo its bad because not everything is shiney!
Duh.
